Jamie Carragher and Jurgen Klopp are targeted by rival fans as Liverpool-loving pundit revels in the

Arsenal fans branded Jamie Carragher a ‘hypocrite’ after he and Jurgen Klopp wildly celebrated Liverpool’s comeback against Luton on Wednesday night

The Reds moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League, as they came from behind to beat Luton 4-1 at Anfield.

Chiedozie Ogbene put the visitors in front early in the first half, before Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo scored within three second half minutes to put Liverpool ahead with Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott both found the net late on.

Klopp delivered his trademark fist-pump celebration to all four stands at Anfield as he celebrated a third consecutive league win.

Carragher, meanwhile, went through the wringer as he followed the game while on duty on CBS’ Champions League coverage along with Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.

The former Liverpool defender looked far from impressed as Richards informed him of Luton’s early lead, but celebrated with gusto as Van Dijk headed the Reds level and Gakpo put them in front two minutes later.

His celebrations were duly caught on camera by CBS and Carragher shared footage on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter.

‘The celebrations police won’t be happy tonight,’ he posted.

The remark was a tongue-in-cheek reference to his criticism of Martin Odegaard’s celebrations after Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Liverpool earlier this month.

Carragher’s assessment proved correct as criticism from Arsenal fans swiftly arrived on his timeline.

‘You are the celebration police hypocrite,’ one post read.

A second added: ‘Mad that this man says some teams celebrate too much’, while a third wrote: ‘Just not happy with one rule for one and different rules for everyone else that’s all.’

The sentiment was echoed by other users, who accused Carragher of ‘having no shame’ and wondered whether he will ‘not be happy about yourself’.

The Sky Sports pundit slammed Odegaard for taking pictures at the end of Arsenal’s win over Liverpool, suggesting he over-celebrated a routine win.

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard all got on the scoresheet for the Gunners as they closed the gap on Liverpool and Man City at the top of the Premier League table on February 4.

Odegaard then proceeded to have some fun with the club photographer at the end of the game, taking pictures of him celebrating after the final whistle.

The gesture, however, irked Carragher.

‘Just get down the tunnel,’ he said.

‘You’ve won a game, three points, you’ve been brilliant. Back in the title race, get down the tunnel. I’m serious, honestly.’

He later posted footage of the Arsenal captain’s celebration on social media, adding: ‘By all means enjoy it, but enjoy it by being disciplined!’

Meanwhile, Klopp compared the magnitude of the result to Liverpool’s famous comeback against Barcelona in 2019, when his side overturned a 3-0 first deficit at Anfield.

‘Tonight is one of those nights where it is difficult to stop talking. I am so happy,’ he said.

‘We had to ignore the fact we were 1-0 down and use the things that are good and improve the counter-press. The second half was a thunderstorm. Wow.

‘I will mention this game from now quite a few times. I promised my team a few months ago that I would never mention or use the Barcelona game as an example and I used it again today so I broke my promise.

‘Just because before the game, it was kind of similar. Many players missing, stuff like this. The team that time ignored the fact who is missing and I want us to ignore the fact who is missing.’
